Our cooperative framework fosters more than just housing: it cultivates genuine connections and a sense of belonging.
A Vibrant History
In the heart of the Edmonton a visionary group of creative minds came together to form Artspace Housing Cooperative. These passionate individuals, deeply rooted in the local arts community, had a bold dream that went beyond just four walls and a roof.
Their primary objective was to construct an oasis of affordable, high-quality housing in the downtown core. But they didn’t stop there. With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity, they envisioned a portion of Artspace’s residences to be fully accessible, opening doors for individuals with disabilities to embrace the cooperative’s artistic spirit.
What began as a humble warehouse-style apartment complex soon blossomed into something remarkable. Artspace transformed into a soaring sixty-six (66) unit high-rise, its sleek lines and modern aesthetics a testament to the cooperative’s pioneering vision. Yet, it didn’t sacrifice its homey charm, complemented by twenty-two (22) charming townhouse-style units that added a warm, community-driven vibe to the development.
Cooperative Living
When you move into the Artspace Housing Cooperative, you’re not just another resident – you’re a valued member of an intimate community. Together with your neighbors (the other members), you elect a Board of Directors from among the members. This Board then works collaboratively to set housing costs and manage the properties. It’s a shared responsibility and democratic process.
We work together to create a vibrant, safe, and caring community atmosphere. You’ll have a voice in shaping the place you call home.

Stay Home, Stay Independent With S.A.I.L.
S.A.I.L. is an innovative home care initiative tailored for individuals with physical disabilities, funded by Alberta Health Services. S.A.I.L. offers round-the-clock support to Artspace Housing Cooperative members, enabling access to essential care services.
Approval from Alberta Health Services is necessary for utilizing S.A.I.L. with allocated care hours determined by case managers. The dedicated healthcare aides assist with daily tasks including personal care, meal preparation and household chores.
INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE LIVING SPACES
Artspace Housing Cooperative boasts a diverse array of living options with 66 apartment units and 22 townhouse units, including 28 adapted units. Enjoy easy access to Edmonton city center, public transportation, grocery stores, enticing restaurants, scenic river valley walking trails, and other essential community services.
